Columbus Day may not be the biggest holiday out there, but it is as good a time as any to take advantage of the three-day weekend and go somewhere awesome! Going to the beach or the mountains are always good options, but did you know that Arizona is home to some of the best places for a weekend trip? The following are a few reasons that you should consider spending Columbus Day weekend in Arizona.
Autumn in the desert does not necessarily bring the colors of fall that people love, but what you will find is amazing weather. Around Columbus Day is the time of year that Arizona residents remember why they live here. Sunny days with blue skies and cool breezes are the best for doing anything outside of the house. And the evenings are accompanied by the slightest nip in the air, which means it is time to use the fireplace again.
The State Fair
For the 133rd year, the Arizona State Fair will fill the fairgrounds with lights and laughter. This year promises to be the best year yet, as the fair offers so much more than just rides. Food, performances, live music, exhibits, and so much more will ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy at the State Fair. Perhaps you have been to a fair before, but I am sure you have not been to one like this.
The desert is home to some of the most unique beauty that you will find anywhere. You can find amazing hikes on the outskirts of the cities of Phoenix and Tucson. But there is also a lush forest to the north in Flagstaff, which looks nothing like the deserts of the Wild West. You can find a landscape that everyone will love in Arizona.
As Arizona is a very popular destination for the “snowbirds,” there is no shortage of amazing golf courses throughout the entire state. And during October, the weather becomes perfect for a day out on the links, especially if you get out early in the morning. For extreme luxury courses, you can go to Scottsdale in Phoenix. For something tucked in the forest, you should go around Flagstaff.
Last Chance for Water Park Fun
Because of the incredible heat of summer, the water parks in Phoenix and Tucson are a way of life. As early October comes around, the opportunities to comfortably take advantage of the amazing parks here are running out. Wet’N’Wild, Big Surf, and Sunsplash are a couple of the local favorites in Phoenix. If it happens to be too cold during the weekend you are here, you should consider checking out the new OdySea Aquarium.
In reality, this list could go on and on until the end of time, because there is a limitless list of exciting things to do in Arizona around Columbus Day weekend in early October. This list provides a good start, but you should just get out there and find out what you love about Arizona!
