Early Spring Events in Tempe, Arizona

While much of the country is still recovering from the cold, Tempe, Arizona is celebrating the arrival of spring with a collection of outdoor events and activities that take advantage of the beautiful local weather. Spring Training Baseball

The arrival of springs means it’s once again time for baseball to begin, and some of the sport’s biggest stars are preparing for the season in sunny Arizona! Spring baseball kicks off February 21st with a friendly exhibition game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Arizona State Sun Devils, while the Cactus League itself gets into full swing on the 23rd. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim make their spring home at Tempe Diablo Stadium, so be sure to catch a few games; you might even see their future stars in action!

Innings Festival

Coinciding with Spring Training is a new festival with music, food, and more! Innings Festival is a celebration of baseball’s fans and features three days of live music and food at Tempe Beach & Arts Park. Each day features a new lineup of bands, and headliners include Queens of the Stone Age, The Avett Brothers, and Chris Stapleton. Tickets start at $89 for 1-day general admission, but you can also purchase 3-day, VIP, and Platinum passes. Come on out to Tempe Beach Park from March 23-25 and celebrate Spring Training in style!

Arizona Aloha Festival

Tempe’s celebration of Hawaiian and Polynesian culture is a great event to attend with your family, and best of all, it’s free! This two-day event begins March 10th at 10AM at Tempe Beach Park, where you’ll find performances, island foods, activities for children, a marketplace filled with traditional Hawaiian and Polynesian crafts, and much more.

Tempe Festival of the Arts

You’ll find this popular art festival taking over the streets of downtown Tempe from March 23-25. Another free festival with plenty of activities for young children, Tempe Festival of the Arts features arts and crafts from over 350 artists around the country, as well as live music, wine tastings, and more. If you have an interest in handmade crafts, this festival is for you!

Dragon Boat Festival

The 15th annual Dragon Boat Festival takes place on Tempe Town Lake March 24th and 25th of this year, starting at 8AM each day. Teams from around the country compete in 10 divisions, including Mixed, Women, Open, Collegiate, Adaptive or Disabled Athletes, and more. Standard races have competitors racing 500m, but there are also unique Guts & Glory and Knock Out races as well. If you’re looking to compete, Early Bird registration ends January 31st, so don’t wait! Spectators can enjoy the festivities safely from the shore.
