Meteor Crater

Nestled between the cities of Flagstaff and Winslow, Meteor Crater was first staked as a mining claim in 1903 by Philadelphian mining engineer Daniel Barringer. Wupatki-Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument

With a storied history that tells the tale of the ancestors of the Hopi, Navajo, and Zuni people, the Wupatki Pueblo at the Wupatki-Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument holds one hundred rooms within its four-story structure. The pueblo was built approximately nine hundred years ago, occupied until its inhabitants mysteriously abandoned it around seven hundred years ago. There’s also an immaculately preserved ball court and a large room speculated to be a meeting area, as well as a natural opening in the ground where cool air blows up out of the Earth.
