Wupatki-Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument
With a storied history that tells the tale of the ancestors of the Hopi, Navajo, and Zuni people, the Wupatki Pueblo at the Wupatki-Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument holds one hundred rooms within its four-story structure. The pueblo was built approximately nine hundred years ago, occupied until its inhabitants mysteriously abandoned it around seven hundred years ago. There’s also an immaculately preserved ball court and a large room speculated to be a meeting area, as well as a natural opening in the ground where cool air blows up out of the Earth.

Spanning over two hundred acres, the Arboretum is a serene and tranquil place where visitors can observe the thousands of plant species native to the region up close and personal. Originally built in the late 1960’s by Frances McAllister, the Arboretum began as her home amidst the scenic beauty of the forest. McAllister donated the land in 1981, creating a safe space to preserve the forest she had lived in for so long. Take a relaxing stroll through the diversely-themed areas, including the Woodlands, the Shade Garden, and the Butterfly Garden.
